The AS-27/ARN-5 antenna (commonly referred to in aviation and modeling jargon as the "boomerang" or "wishbone" antenna) was the external receiving antenna component of the AN/ARN-5 Instrument Landing System (ILS / Glide Slope and Localizer). It was introduced into USAAF and US Navy service in the second half of 1944 and subsequently saw widespread use in the post-war era across a broad range of multi-engine aircraft.

Bombers (Late WWII and Post-War Era)

• North American B-25 Mitchell: Factory-installed on late production blocks of the B-25J and B-25H variants (most commonly mounted on the upper forward fuselage ahead of the windshield).

• Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress: Late production B-17G blocks (starting around autumn 1944, typically located on the dorsal fuselage or chin area).

• Consolidated B-24 Liberator: Late wartime production runs (including Ford-built B-24J/L/M variants).
