The M1A1 Abrams is an American main battle tank that entered service in the 1980s and has become a symbol of modern armoured technology. The M1A1 FEP (Firepower Enhancement Package) variant incorporates upgraded fire control systems, improved electronics, second-generation thermal imaging sensors and the ability to effectively conduct combat day and night. The main armament consists of the M256 120mm smoothbore cannon, supplemented by close-in machine guns.
In 2023, the Republic of Poland has included M1A1 FEP tanks in its armament as part of the strengthening of its defence and modernisation of its armed forces. These machines have been complemented by the more modern M1A2 SEPv3 versions and are used by units performing tasks within the national defence and NATO commitments.
