1/35 Sd.Kfz. 234/1 Schwerer Panzer-Spwg. Interior Kit

RFM RM-5114 M50 Mk2 Super Sherman (M4A4 Hull HVSS) Standard version 1/35 is a plastic model of an Israeli medium tank from the 1950s and 1960s. It is a modernized version of the American Sherman with HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension) chassis based on the M4A4 hull and armed with French 75mm CN 75-50 gun. The Super Sherman represented a significant upgrade of the original design and served in the Israeli army during several conflicts including the Suez Crisis (1956) and the Six Day War (1967). The scale of 1:35 allows for detailed treatment of the distinctive features of the upgrade. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.

The M50 Super Sherman represents Israel’s response to the need to modernize its aging Sherman tanks, which formed the backbone of the IDF’s armored forces during the first decades of the state’s existence. After the War of Independence (1948–1949), Israel acquired a significant number of Sherman tanks from various sources, but their original armament and performance were no longer sufficient to counter the Soviet tanks supplied to Arab states. Israeli engineers therefore launched a modernization program that led to the creation of several “Super Sherman” variants. The M50 model was armed with a French 75mm CN 75-50 gun with a high muzzle velocity, which significantly improved the vehicle’s anti-tank capabilities. The M4A4 hull with an extended engine and the HVSS suspension with wider tracks ensured better mobility and stability.

The M50 Super Sherman first proved its worth during the Suez Crisis in 1956, where it faced Soviet-made Egyptian tanks. It continued its combat career during the Six-Day War in 1967, when Israeli armored forces achieved decisive victories in the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, and Judea and Samaria. Despite its origins in World War II, the modernized Sherman, in the hands of well-trained crews, was able to compete with more modern models. For modelers, the M50 is interesting for its combination of an American base design, French armament, and Israeli operational modifications, creating a visually and historically unique vehicle.

The RFM 1:35 scale kit depicts the Standard version with the characteristic extended hull of the M4A4, an HVSS suspension with wide tracks, and a turret mounting the French 75mm CN 75-50 gun. The model allows for detailed rendering of typical features such as external storage boxes, spare tracks, operational equipment, and specific Israeli modifications. The 1:35 scale provides ample space for weathering techniques appropriate for a desert environment—dust, scuffs, faded paint, and signs of heavy use. The kit is suitable both for a standalone display piece and as part of a diorama depicting IDF combat operations during the Cold War. The package does not include the paints or adhesives needed for assembly.
