The Gloster E.28/39, nicknamed the Pioneer or Squirt, was the first British jet aircraft and only the third jet in the world. Its development was made possible by the revolutionary work of designer Frank Whittle and his company Power Jets Ltd. on the Power Jets W.1 engine. The collaboration with Gloster and designer George Carter led to the creation of a compact all-metal aircraft with nose gear and a nose intake duct.
The first prototype W4041 flew on 15 May 1941. Testing continued into 1945 with various engines and modifications, including reinforced tail surfaces. After testing was completed, the aircraft was displayed at the Science Museum in London, where it remains today.
The kit features two frames of grey plastic parts, clear parts, photo-etched accessories and decals for two variants of the first prototype.
Paint and glue are not included. Ideal for modelers with an interest in pioneering jet engines and aviation history.
