1/48 Ki-21-Ia Sally one-sided express fit mask for ICM
ASK masks for the 1/48 Ki-21-Ia “Sally” plastic kit from ICM come as a one-sided Express Fit set. A sheet with masks numbered up to 129 covers the outer side of the windows and glazed sections of the aircraft.
ASK designs its masks in-house; this set is drawn directly from the parts of the ICM Ki-21-Ia Sally kit (1/48). Sheet ASK 200-M48198 from the SCALE MASK range is very extensive: long rows of rectangular masks for individual panes, shaped masks 54–57 and 67–70, a group 72–87 arranged around the pair 71A and 71B, dozens of small masks 88–110 and a strip with masks 113–129. The one-sided layout covers the outer face of the glazing; the double-sided version is 200-M48197.
The Japanese Army Air Service used the Ki-21 in China from autumn 1938 and at Nomonhan in 1939, later over Malaya, Burma, the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea. The early Ki-21-Ia lacked self-sealing fuel tanks, which contributed to high losses. The masks are shaped for the ICM Ki-21-Ia kit in 1/48 scale.
