1/48 Mil Mi-17 Hip - Hungarian AF

Mil Mi-17 (in Russian designation Mi-8MT, NATO: Hip-H) is an improved and upgraded version of the Mi-8 helicopter, with more powerful Klimov TV3-117MT engines and a relocated balance rotor to the left side of the tail spar.

The Hungarian Air Force (Magyar Légierő) was one of the key users of this platform, which entered its armament under the Warsaw Pact. After the fall of communism and Hungary's accession to NATO (1999), the Mi-17 remained an indispensable aircraft for transport, search and rescue (SAR) operations and special forces support.

Hungarian Mi-17s were frequently seen on international exercises and NATO missions (e.g. in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Afghanistan), where they proved their reliability and robustness even in challenging environments. The helicopters have gradually undergone partial upgrades to meet NATO standards for communications and navigation, but the basic Mi-17 platform has served Hungary faithfully for decades.
