The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a was one of the most powerful British fighter aircraft of the First World War. Powered by the Wolseley Viper engine, which was a licensed version of the Hispano-Suiza 8 engine, the variant offered greater reliability and performance. The SE.5a was deployed in the final stages of the war and served with units of the British Royal Flying Corps (later RAF) and the American Air Service.
