The Hawker Siddeley Harrier became the world's first operationally deployed perpendicular short take-off and landing (V/STOL) aircraft. In addition to the combat versions, special two-seat variants, designated T2, T4 and T8, were built primarily for pilot training. These machines retained the Harrier's capabilities, including hover control, and were essential for the safe transition of pilots to the combat variants. The T-series Harriers served in both the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy, and due to their long service, became an integral part of the British Air Force.
