A&A Models 1/72 A-1E "Skyraider" Attack Aircraft is a 1/72 scale plastic kit of an American attack aircraft. The Douglas A-1E Skyraider was a rugged single-engine piston-powered aircraft that served from the end of World War II until the Vietnam War. This double-cabin variant was designed for night and rescue missions, where it excelled in its long range and ability to carry extensive armament.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was designed during World War II as a deck attack aircraft for the US Navy, but did not enter service until after the end of the war. With a powerful Wright R-3350 engine rated at over 2,700 horsepower, a large payload and extreme durability, it became one of the most versatile piston combat aircraft of the postwar era.
The A-1E version, originally designated the AD-5, had an enlarged fuselage with a two-seat side-by-side cabin and was used primarily for escort and rescue missions. During the Vietnam War, "Skyraiders" played a key role in providing close air support and helicopter protection in the rescue of downed pilots. Their combination of long range, high payload capacity and ability to survive even serious damage earned them a legendary reputation among pilots and infantry.
