Hobby 2000 1/72 Douglas SBD-4/5 Dauntless is an American World War II dive bomber, famous for its key role in the Pacific battles. SBD-4 and SBD-5 versions were deployed from 1942 and served until the end of the war. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the main dive bomber of the US Navy and Marine Corps in the first half of World War II. He was especially famous at the Battle of Midway in June 1942, where his crews sank four Japanese carriers and fundamentally changed the course of the war in the Pacific.
The SBD-4 version, introduced in 1942, had improved electrical installation and could carry a wider range of armament. The following SBD-5 variant, the most numerous of all versions, was equipped with more powerfulWright R-1820-60 engine with 1,200 hp, better crew protection and a larger ammunition supply. These versions operated from both aircraft carriers and ground bases, and participated in combat throughout the Pacific and other theaters.
The 1/72nd scale Hobby 2000 kit features detailed plastic parts with finely engraved paneling and decals for authentic SBD-4 and SBD-5 markings. This model is suitable for modelers with an interest in naval aviation and significant WWII machines.
The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
