1/72 McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1/FGR.2
Airfix McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1/FGR.2 is a plastic kit of the British Phantom in 1:72 scale with three specific marking options from Royal Navy and RAF service. British-operated Phantoms were among the most distinctive Cold War fighters in UK service. The FG.1 was adapted for British use with Rolls-Royce Spey engines, and after HMS Ark Royal was decommissioned in 1978, surviving Royal Navy aircraft were transferred to the RAF. Nos. 43 and 111 Squadrons then used the FG.1 on air-defence duties through the 1980s until the type was replaced by the Tornado F.3 in 1989.
This kit includes three specific subjects: an FG.1 flown by Wing Commander John Brady and Flight Lieutenant Michael Pugh-Davis of No. 43 (Fighter) Squadron on 24 February 1988, an FG.1 of No. 892 Naval Air Squadron from the HMS Ark Royal/USS Saratoga period in 1978, and an FGR.2 of No. 56 Squadron at RAF Wattisham in 1991. That combination brings together late Royal Navy service and two distinct RAF appearances in one release.
The model features finely represented panel lines and cockpit detail, while the undercarriage can be built raised or lowered. Inside the box are the plastic kit, decals, instruction sheet and paint guide.
