The Mk.IXe differed from the Mk.IXc mainly in its armament. The ‘e’ wing carried two 20 mm Hispano cannon and, instead of four .303 in machine guns, two heavy .50 in Browning machine guns. They reached units from spring 1944 and, after the Normandy landings, flew with the RAF’s 2nd Tactical Air Force as fighters and fighter-bombers.

The OVERTREES box contains only the plastic parts of the Eduard kit; decals, photo-etch, masks and instructions are not included. Eduard offers this budget edition for a limited time only. It is aimed at modellers who source markings and accessories separately.

In 1/72 scale the Spitfire Mk.IXe fits a collection of RAF aircraft from the last year of the war or a small airfield scene. Paints and glues needed for assembly are not included.
