1/72 Spitfire Mk.XVI Bubbletop w/ late wings OVERTREES
Eduard 1/72 Spitfire Mk.XVI Bubbletop w/ late wings OVERTREES is a plastic kit of the British fighter with a bubble canopy. Plastic sprues only, without decals or instructions. Paints and glues needed for assembly are not included.
The Spitfire Mk.XVI was structurally similar to the Mk.IX but powered by the American-built Packard Merlin 266. It entered service in late 1944 and flew with the RAF’s 2nd Tactical Air Force as a fighter and fighter-bomber. Many aircraft received a cut-down rear fuselage with a bubble canopy that greatly improved rearward view.
According to Eduard, the sprues represent an aircraft with the bubble canopy and the late wing with bulges above the wheel wells. The OVERTREES edition contains plastic parts only – no decals, instructions, photo-etch or masks – and is sold for a limited time. It suits modellers with their own markings.
In 1/72 scale the Mk.XVI Bubbletop makes a fitting end to a collection of Merlin-powered Spitfires. Paints and glues needed for assembly are not included.
