IBG 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire PR Type C - Heston Special is a detailed model of an early reconnaissance version of the Spitfire from 1940-41, modified for unarmed high-altitude photographic missions. The reconnaissance versions of the Spitfire were developed in the early stages of World War II, when the British Air Force urgently needed a fast and inexpensivecapable of flying at high altitudes and providing valuable imagery of enemy positions. One of the first specialised variants was the Spitfire PR Type C, also known as the Heston Special after the base where its modifications were carried out. These machines were stripped of armament, fitted with additional fuel tanks and cameras installed in the rear fuselage. Thanks to the lightweighting and modified aerodynamics, they could fly faster and higher than standard fighter versions, allowing them to perform risky reconnaissance missions over occupied Europe.
The 1/72nd scale IBG kit faithfully depicts this specific reconnaissance variant, including the characteristic modifications to the fuselage, wings and paneling. It features fine surface details, clean mouldings and a realistic fuselage with camera elements.
