The Vickers Vildebeest Mk.IV was the final version of the British biplane torpedo bomber of the 1930s. It was powered by a Bristol Perseus radial engine instead of the original Napier Lion in-line engine. The change in powerplant improved flight characteristics and maintenance, and although the aircraft was technically obsolete at the outbreak of World War II, it remained in service due to a shortage of more modern types.
The Mk.IV was deployed primarily in the Far East, serving with RAF squadrons in Singapore, Malaya and India.
