A6M2-N Rufe 1/48
Eduard 1/48 A6M2-N Rufe is a detailed plastic kit of a Japanese floatplane fighter based on the famous Zerra design. The Rufe was intended for the defence of remote island bases in the Pacific and, thanks to the installation of a large centre float, was able to operate without land-based airfields. The model offers fine surface detail, a realistic cockpit and accurate proportions for this unusual naval variant.
The A6M2-N Rufe was developed as a floatplane adaptation of the Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero fighter aircraft, created for the needs of the Japanese Navy at the beginning of the Pacific War. The aircraft was to protect small islands, bays and water anchorages where it was not possible to build a conventional airfield. Modifications included the installation of a large central float, two auxiliary stabilizing floats, a reinforced structure and minor aerodynamic changes. Despite this, the Rufe retained decent manoeuvrability, good climbability and excellent range, making it suitable for patrolling, escorting seaplanes and defending coastal positions. The A6M2-N served primarily in the Aleutians, Solomon Islands, and other remote areas, where it formed the first line of defense against American air raids and reconnaissance flights.
The Eduard 1/48 A6M2-N Rufe kit provides an accurate interpretation of this floatplane variant with a detailed cockpit, finem engraving and emphasis on typical design features such as the robust float landing gear and marine equipment. It features authentic Japanese Navy markings and build options that allow the machine to be built in a variety of operational states. The model is a great choice for those interested in Pacific naval aviation and for collectors of unusual variants of classic fighters.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
