Academy 12313 F8F-1/2 "USS Tarawa" LE is a 1:48 scale plastic kit of the Grumman F8F Bearcat carrier fighter. The Grumman F8F Bearcat was developed as a lightweight carrier-based interceptor for fleet defense. It first flew in 1944 and reached squadron service with VF-10 in May 1945, too late for wartime combat, so its main career belongs to the post-war years. This release includes the parts needed for either major production version. The choice between F8F-1 and F8F-2 is handled with alternative cowling parts and a different vertical tail and rudder. Surface treatment combines fine engraved panel lines and rivets, while the cockpit and landing gear are represented in plastic. The canopy can be displayed open, and the ventral cowl flap is also positionable.
