Information about the original:
The landing craft known as the LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel), or Higgins boat, was one of the most important components of Allied naval equipment during World War II. It rendered tremendous service to the Allies not only during Operation Overlord and the invasion of occupied France, but also during U.S. naval operations in the Pacific, where it proved particularly effective during missions in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Thanks to its shallow draft and wide bow ramp, this boat was able to unload its entire cargo and push off from the shore again in just 3 to 4 minutes.
