The RNLI's largest lifeboat
The Severn class entered RNLI service in 1995 as an all-weather lifeboat. With a range of up to 250 nautical miles and a top speed of 25 knots, it remains the largest vessel in the RNLI fleet. For operations close to shore, the full-size boat carries a smaller Y-class motorboat launched and recovered by a light deck crane, while protected propellers allow work in shallow water.
