The Avro Lancaster was the third British heavy four-engined bomber to enter RAF service during the war. Its notably spacious bomb bay allowed it to carry the largest bombs then in use. At least 35 Lancasters completed 100 missions or more; this exceptionally durable group is often referred to as the Lancaster Centurions.
