Airfix A11007A Fairey Gannet AS.1/AS.4 Export Schemes 1/48 is a plastic kit of the British carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft. This release carries markings of export users. Paints and glue required for assembly are not included.
The Fairey Gannet was a Fleet Air Arm carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft powered by the Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba, which drove two contra-rotating propellers. The three-man crew sat in three separate cockpits. Deliveries of the AS.1 to the Fleet Air Arm began in 1954, and the AS.4 received a more powerful engine. Besides the Royal Navy, the Gannet was operated by Australia, West Germany and Indonesia.
The A11007A release adds markings of the type’s export users to the Airfix Gannet AS.1/AS.4 kit in 1/48 scale. The box shows a Royal Australian Navy aircraft with the fuselage number 860.
In 1/48 scale the distinctive silhouette of the Gannet, with its deep fuselage and three cockpits, comes across well, so the model stands out in a collection of post-war carrier aircraft.
