Information about the original and the model:
The Sd.Kfz. 167 Sturmgeschütz IV was developed as part of an incredibly successful series of armored self-propelled assault guns. In the final stages of the war, these were likely the most effective German armored vehicles.

The Sd.Kfz. 167 Sturmgeschütz IV emerged from an incredibly successful series of armored self-propelled assault guns produced by the Germans during World War II, which were originally intended to provide fire support for infantry units which, during their advance, encountered particularly stubborn pockets of resistance, especially in fortified positions. The original 75mm L/24 short-barreled guns were later replaced by longer-barreled L/43 and L/48 guns. These were incredibly destructive and effective anti-tank weapons which, combined with the low profile of these vehicles, created a highly feared adversary for Allied tanks, as they could be easily concealed on the battlefield for ambushes.

Following the Allied bombing of the Stug III factory in November 1943, which severely disrupted production, the Germans were forced to modify the casemate superstructure to fit the larger chassis of the Panzer IV tank. However, they managed to preserve the low profile and effectiveness of the original vehicle in destroying enemy tanks. These new vehicles were reclassified as the Sturmgeschütz IV. Compared to German heavy tanks of the time, the Sturmgeschütz guns were fast and relatively inexpensive to produce, and thus became arguably the most effective German armored vehicles in the final stages of the war. And while production numbers for the Panther and Tiger tanks steadily declined as the war progressed, a significant number of Sturmgeschütz vehicles continued to roll off the assembly lines to compensate for this shortage.
