The Italeri 1282 XB-70 Valkyrie plastic kit in 1:72 scale depicts the American XB-70 bomber prototype developed during the Cold War. The B-70 program aimed to combine the payload and range of the B-52 with a speed higher than that of the B-58.
Background of the aircraft
After competition between Boeing and North American Aviation, the North American design was selected in December 1957. By 1959, however, it had become clear that the project would not fit the new aerial combat technology and doctrine, so the program was reduced to a minimum. Only two prototypes were completed, and the first flew in September 1964. During testing, the XB-70 demonstrated speeds above Mach 3.
