Italeri 1462 Stirling Mk.III (1:72) depicts the Short Stirling in the later Mk.III configuration that followed the original Mk.I. This is not a generic Stirling release, but a specific production variant defined by changes to its engines and defensive armament.

The aircraft behind the kit

The Short Stirling was the first British four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War. Its most recognisable features were the the cockpit set above the fuselage, and the notably tall landing gear. The type began entering RAF Bomber Command service in late 1940, reached operational status in January 1941, and flew its first wartime mission in February 1941 against a logistics target in Rotterdam.

What sets the Mk.III apart

The Mk.III directly succeeded the Mk.I. Compared with the earlier version, it introduced Bristol Hercules XVI engines and revised defensive armament, placing this kit within the later service life of the Stirling.
