This plastic kit depicts the Ju 87 in Italian service, covering the version of the famous dive bomber taken over by the Regia Aeronautica from Germany. With its distinctive inverted gull wings, the aircraft is one of the best-known combat types of the early Second World War. In Italian use it became known as “Picchiatello” and served in both ground-attack and dive-bombing roles.

The B-2/R-2 in Italian service

Italy requested a batch of one hundred Ju 87s before entering the war. The first Ju 87B aircraft arrived in the summer of 1940 and equipped 96° Gruppo Bombardamento a Tuffo. Italian units later operated both the B-2 and the longer-range R-2, with a total of 150 aircraft taken into service. The type was used over Malta, in North Africa, in the Balkans and on the Mediterranean front.

The kit is produced in 1:48 scale and builds into a model 229 mm in length. Decals for 5 versions give a choice of markings for this Italian-operated Ju 87. The package also includes photo-etched parts and colour instructions, adding extra detail options straight from the box.
