Italeri 2786 - F-16A Fighting Falcon (1:48)

Italeri 2786 F-16A Fighting Falcon is a 1:48 plastic kit of the early single-seat version of an aircraft that became one of the icons of modern military aviation.

The aircraft and its development

The F-16 Fighting Falcon was produced by the American company General Dynamics from the late 1970s to meet a United States Air Force requirement for a modern and effective single-seat air-superiority day fighter. The design then evolved into an all-weather multirole aircraft. That blend of manoeuvrability, performance and operational flexibility helped make the F-16 a standard type in many air arms around the world.

Recognizable features

The aircraft is immediately identifiable by its frameless bubble canopy, which gives the pilot excellent visibility. Other notable features include the side-mounted control stick, fly-by-wire flight control system and modern avionics. Fixed armament consists of an internal 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon, while the hardpoints allow a wide range of missiles and bombs to be carried.
