During World War II, the Wehrmacht deployed the 150 mm SFH18 howitzer on all key fronts. Rheinmetall and Krupp, two of Germany’s leading artillery manufacturers, developed it in the 1920s and 1930s with the aim of optimizing resources and technological capabilities within the limits set by the Treaty of Versailles. However, beginning in 1933, German plans for rearmament became significantly more ambitious, with a particularly marked increase in the production of howitzers and field guns. The SFH18 had a simple and reliable design and offered a maximum range of 13.5 km. It could be disassembled into two parts and towed by horses or half-track vehicles, as was increasingly common during World War II. A crew of seven soldiers operated this gun. A 105-mm caliber version (sK 10.5 cm) was also developed on the same chassis, featuring a longer barrel. However, it was significantly heavier and was produced in much smaller numbers than the Wehrmacht’s standard 105 mm field gun, designated leFH18.
