Royal Navy service
During the Second World War, Vosper became well known for building small and fast Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB) and Motor Gun Boats (MGB) for the Royal Navy. The 72'6" boats served in roles such as coastal patrol and anti-submarine support in the North Sea and the English Channel. With three engines producing 4,200 hp, they could reach nearly 40 knots (70 km/h), and carried crews of 10 to 13 men.
About the prototype
The first versions entered service at the beginning of the war, followed by Type I and Type II variants with different combinations of offensive and defensive armament. The boats were usually armed with 457 mm torpedo tubes, depth charges, and 0.303" Vickers machine guns, or more rarely 0.5" Vickers guns for air defence.
