The MiG-21PFM was a modernized version of the famous Soviet fighter aircraft that entered service in the mid-1960s and became one of the pillars of the Warsaw Pact air defence. It featured, among other things, a redesigned cockpit with armour plating, a more powerfulengine, retractable keel and the ability to carry new types of armament including cruise missiles. Aircraft of this type were deployed in a number of Cold War conflicts, serving in Egypt, Vietnam and Afghanistan, to name a few.
