The M4 Sherman medium tank was the main tank used by the United States during World War II. It was produced in vast numbers and formed the backbone of the United States’ armored forces at that time. It was manufactured in several variants and versions; production of the M4A3E8 began in late 1944. The M4A3E8, nicknamed “Easy Eight,” incorporated several technical improvements that enhanced the Sherman’s operational effectiveness. The high-velocity 76 mm M1 cannon was complemented by a new suspension system with horizontal volute springs (HVSS), which provided a smoother ride and enabled higher speeds. "Easy Eight" saw action during the final stages of World War II and played an active role in the Korean War.
