The colouring of IJN warships was not uniform. Shades varied depending on the shipyard where the ships were constructed or maintained. The shade "Sasebo Naval Arsenal Color" is a specific medium gray camouflage color applied to the hulls of ships at the Sasebo Shipyards in Nagasaki Prefecture.

• Unlike the darker Kure color, the Sasebo shade is lighter and more into the gray, which is key to properly color distinguishing different ships and eras.
