The North American P-51D-5 Mustang was one of the most important fighter aircraft of World War II, known...known for its performance and long range, which allowed it to escort bombers deep into enemy territory. The D-5 version was one of the first to feature the distinctive bubble overlay on the cockpit, but without the additional dorsal fin that was added on later versions to improve stability.
