Special Hobby's Fokker D.II Grünzweig's Planes in 1/32 scale depicts an early German biplane fighter aircraft that was deployed in 1916 in response to the more powerful Allied machines. The Fokker D.II was designed as a light and agile aircraft to replace the obsolete Eindecker monoplanes. It was powered by a 100 hp Oberursel U.I rotary engine, which gave it solid performance but limited its speed and climb rate.
This model focuses on aircraft piloted by German fighter ace Walter Grünzweig, who flew with the German Imperial Air Force at the time the Fokker D.II formed the backbone of the German fighter force. Although this type was soon eclipsed by more powerful machines such as the Albatros D.I, it still played an important role in early air combat.
