The MiG-21F-13 is an early production version of the famous Soviet MiG-21 fighter aircraft, which became one of the most widely used supersonic combat aircraft in history. The designation "F-13" refers to the afterburner version with armament consisting of two R-3S (AA-2 Atoll) air-to-air missiles along with an NR-30 cannon. The aircraft was designed as a light interceptor with an emphasis on speed and climbability - at the time of its development in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it was one of the most advanced types of the Soviet Air Force. The distinctive delta wing shape and slender fuselage became a visual icon of the Cold War. The MiG-21, in its various versions, served in dozens of countries around the world and participated in a number of regional conflicts from Vietnam to the Middle East to Africa.
The 1:48 scale Eduard kit comes from the Weekend Edition series, which is aimed at modellers looking for a quality base without any extensions. Eduard plastic parts feature fine and precise moulding with well-captured surface detail that faithfully matches the real aircraft. Four marking options allow the model to be assembled in a variety of color schemes, typically including Soviet Air Force machines and export users, while the included Eduard decals are printed with an emphasis on accuracy and good adhesion. The 1:48 scale is popular among aircraft modellers for its good balance between detail and resulting model size - the finished MiG-21F-13 in this scale is large enough for believable colouring and highlighting of paneling, but still space-efficient. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
