Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) Ausf. G was the last and most produced version of this German assault gun. Built on the Panzer III tank chassis, the StuG III was originally designed as an infantry fire support, but as the war progressed it became an effective tank fighter. The Ausf. G, produced from December 1942, was armed with the powerful 75mm StuK 40 L/48 gun, which was capable of destroying most Allied tanks at long range.
The Ausf. G had reinforced frontal armour, a redesigned conning tower and additional side Schürzen armour for better protection against infantry weapons and cumulative missiles. StuG III Ausf. G became one of the German Army's most effective armoured vehicles, especially on the Eastern Front, where it challenged the Soviet T-34 and KV-1.
