Long description: The Bücker Bü 131 ‘Jungmann’ was one of the most widespread and popular biplane trainers of its time. It was developed in the first half of the 1930s as a light and manoeuvrable aircraft intended for basic flight training, and thanks to its excellent flight characteristics, it became the standard type for pilot training. The Bü 131D variant was the most widespread production version, which the Luftwaffe deployed extensively in its flight schools. It was on these aircraft that entire generations of German pilots learnt the basics of flying. For model-makers, the Bü 131D is of interest due to its classic biplane configuration, distinctive strutwork and clean lines, which are typical of training aircraft from the interwar and wartime eras.
The ICM kit, in 1:32 scale, depicts this aircraft in its winter livery and offers two colour scheme options. The first depicts a Bücker Bü 131D from Flugzeugführerschule A/B 71 (Pilot School A/B 71) in Prossnitz, dating from 1942 at the latest. The second variant depicts an aircraft from Flugzeugführerschule A/B 63 (Pilot School A/B 63) in Marienbad in the winter of 1941. Both schemes thus aptly reflect the aircraft’s role as a training aircraft for Luftwaffe flying schools, whilst also offering an attractive theme for building a model with a wintry atmosphere.
The model consists of 90 parts and, at a scale of 1:32, measures 208 × 231 mm (length × wingspan), making it a substantial display piece with clearly visible structural details. With a training biplane, careful detailing of the struts and bracing is usually required, along with highlighting the panelling and showing signs of wear and tear consistent with intensive training use, or traces of snow and mud to reflect the winter setting. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
