The MiG-21 is one of the most widely used supersonic fighter aircraft in history and its development began in the mid-1950s. It was developed in the mid-1950s as a response by the Soviet aircraft industry to the requirements for a light, fast and affordable machine for aerial combat. The early versions of the MiG-21, designated the MiG-21F and MiG-21PF, were equipped with the KM-1 (City-1 ejection seat), which was the standard rescue system for pilots at the time. The KM-1 ejection seat allowed ejection in a limited range of speeds and altitudes, which corresponded to the state of the art at that time. Over time it was replaced by more modern types (SK, KM-1M), but for the early versions the KM-1 remains the historically correct choice.

For modelers building the MiG-21 in 1:32 scale, the cockpit is a key area - with the cowling open, it becomes the dominant feature of the entire model. Standard plastic seats in kits often lack the fine details of the straps, controls, warning lettering and the structure of the seat itself that are readily visible on the real machine. Aires' resin add-on addresses these shortcomings and offers a significantly higher level of detail - the castings capture the shape of the padding, the texture of the surfaces, the ejection levers and mechanisms, as well as the typical structural elements of the KM-1 seat.

Working with resin accessories requires some experience: the parts must be carefully separated from the casting blocks, cleaned of any dirt, dry testedand only then glue them together with a suitable adhesive (most often based on CA-second adhesive or two-component epoxy). The resin surface should be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper and degreased before painting to ensure that the paint adheres well. Painting the seat usually involves a combination of dark shades (black, dark grey) for the main structure, metallic tones for the mechanical parts and red or yellow accents for the safety features and levers. Highlighting details with dry brush and applying decals with Cyrillic lettering will give the seat an authentic look.

The kit is compatible with common MiG-21 kits of early 1:32 scale (e.g. from Trumpeter, Hobby Boss or older brands). The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
