The British version of the American M3 Lee medium tank was deployed during World War II, particularly in the North African campaign, where it formed the backbone of the Commonwealth armoured forces. This tank was characterised by its unusual armament arrangement - with a 75mm side gun in the hull and a 37mm gun in the smaller turret. The British adopted the name "Lee" for this variant (as opposed to the American version "Grant").
