1/35 JS-2 Model 1944 Heavy Tank

The JS-2 (IS-2, Iosif Stalin) heavy tank was one of the most powerful Soviet armoured vehicles deployed during the final phase of the Second World War. It was developed as the successor to the KV series of tanks and was designed to breach heavily fortified enemy positions and to engage heavy German armour. Its main armament consisted of a massive 122mm D-25T gun, which provided enormous firepower capable of destroying German heavy tanks and fortifications. Vehicles of this type played a significant role during the Red Army’s offensives in 1944–1945, including in the Battle of Berlin, where they supported the infantry in urban combat and breached German defences. It is characterised by its cast turret and imposing silhouette, which rank the JS-2 amongst the iconic Soviet heavy tanks. For modellers, it presents a rewarding subject with distinctive shapes and ample opportunities to depict the wear and tear of the Eastern Front.

The Rye Field Model kit in 1:35 scale (cat. no. RM-5160) is a glue-together model depicting the JS-2 Model 1944 variant. According to the manufacturer, the kit includes functional (movable) tracks, which allow for a realistic positioning of the running gear and a faithful representation of the track running over the large road wheels. The 1:35 scale is the most widely used among armoured vehicle modellers and offers ample scope for detailed surface work, additional modifications and integration into dioramas set on the Eastern Front.

The model is suitable both as a stand-alone display piece and as a base for a diorama focusing on Soviet armoured vehicles from the final stages of the war. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
