1/48 P-47M THUNDERBOLT. DORSAL FIN. BASIC KIT
MiniArt 1/48 P-47M Thunderbolt. Dorsal Fin. Basic Kit is a plastic model of American WWII fighter aircraft. The kit depicts the P-47M variant with the characteristic dorsal fin, developed for high-speed escort and interception of enemy fighters. Decals for 2 marking variants are included. The Basic Kit version offers a clear build with a focus on precise shapes and surface details. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest and most powerful single-engine fighter aircraft deployed during World War II. The P-47M variant represented one of the last and most technologically advanced developmental stages of the series, optimized for high-speed interception of German jet and rocket fighters that began appearing over Europe late in the war. The P-47M was equipped with the more powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800-57(C) engine with CH₂O water injection, which allowed it to reach speeds of over 760 km/h (155 mph) - the highest of any production Thunderbolt variant. A distinctive identifying feature of the P-47M was the dorsal fin, added to improve directional stability at high speeds. This modification became standard on later versions and contributed significantly to the machine's maneuverability in demanding combat maneuvers.
The P-47M entered service in late 1944 and was deployed operationally exclusively with the 56th Fighter Group, an elite USAAF unit operating out of England. The role of these machines was to accompany bomber formations on long raids deep into Germany while responding to the threat of fast enemy fighters such as the Me 262 or Me 163. Although the P-47M was produced in relatively limited numbers (about 130), it represented the pinnacle of the Thunderbolt development line and symbolized the Allies' technological response to the increasing performance of German aircraft in the latter stages of the war.
The 1:48 scale MiniArt kit depicts the specific configuration of the P-47M, including the dorsal stabilizer and details corresponding to late production. The Basic Kit version is designed as a straightforward build with a focus on accurate shapes, quality surface detail and a simple path to the finished model, suitable for builders looking for a solid foundation without excessive complexity. Included are decals for 2 marking variations to display specific 56th Fighter Group machines. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
