1/35 Junkers Ju87 D5 Stuka

The Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" (short for Sturzkampfflugzeug, dive bomber) was the symbol and feared weapon of the German Luftwaffe in the early stages of World War II. Its distinctive sirens and precision dive attacks demoralized the enemy and became a symbol of the blitzkrieg. Although its weaknesses, particularly its vulnerability to modern fighters, became apparent in the Battle of Britain, the Stuka remained in service on other fronts where it could exploit its strengths.

The Ju 87 D-5 variant represented a significant improvement over earlier versions. It was developed to meet the needs of the Eastern Front, where it was necessary to destroy ground targets in situations with limited danger from air defences. Major changes included the removal of the characteristic "air raid" brakes under the wings and the installation of an extended, slimmer wing for improved flight characteristics. The original pair of 7.92mm machine guns in the wings were replaced by the more powerful 20mm MG 151/20 cannon, greatly increasing firepower against ground targets. The crew cabin and engine were fitted with additional armour to increase the aircraft's survivability. The Ju 87 D-5 was widely deployed on the Eastern Front and in North Africa, where it served as an effective anti-tank and support weapon.
