1/35 Luftwaffe Field Regiment. Ardennes 1944-45

The Luftwaffe field regiments (Luftwaffe-Feldregimenter, or Luftwaffe field divisions) were formed as ground units composed of air force personnel, who were deployed in ground combat at a time when Germany was facing a growing shortage of infantry. These units often differed from the standard Wehrmacht infantry in terms of their equipment and certain aspects of their uniforms, making them an interesting subject for model-makers and diorama builders. In the final phase of the war, many of these units took part in both defensive and offensive operations on the Western Front, including the German offensive in the Ardennes at the turn of 1944 and 1945, known as the Battle of the Bulge (Battle of the Bulge). The fighting took place in harsh winter conditions, which is reflected in the soldiers’ winter clothing and equipment.
