The Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausf.K was a command tank based on the design of the proven Pz.Kpfw. III. These specially modified machines were equipped with enhanced radios and command equipment to enable effective control of tank units in combat. The Ausf.K version was based on the Panzer III Ausf.J chassis and was produced in limited numbers during 1942, with some vehicles subsequently modified directly from already produced tanks.
A significant innovation was the use of additional Schürzen armour plates, which protected the sides of the tank against the effects of anti-tank rifles and cumulative ammunition. These modifications appeared on the front from 1943 onwards, particularly on the Eastern Front, where the Panzer III still performed support and command duties, although it was gradually replaced by more modern types.
The Border Model 1/35th scale kit offers a detailed model of this rare command tank, including a faithfulradio equipment, finely executed surface details and realistic Schürzen. The model is suitable for both stand-alone construction and for inclusion in dioramas depicting the combat deployment of German armoured vehicles during World War II.
