The T-55AMD is a modernized version of the Soviet T-55 medium tank, equipped with the Drozd active protection system. The Drozd system was developed in the 1970s as the world’s first operational active protection system, designed to protect tanks from anti-tank missiles and RPGs. It uses a 24.5 GHz Doppler radar to detect incoming projectiles and, in the event of a threat, fires a 107 mm projectile that destroys the threat before it reaches the tank.
