Brand: Dragon

The Tiger I was one of the most iconic and feared tanks of World War II. Its massive armour, massive 88mm KwK 36 gun and imposing appearance made it the symbol of German armour strength, even though it was produced in relatively limited numbers and its deployment was beset by logistical difficulties. The Tiger I entered combat in 1942 and immediately changed the rules of tank combat - its armour could withstand most of the anti-tank weapons of the time.and its main weapon could destroy enemy tanks at ranges where it remained relatively safe. For modellers, the Tiger I is a classic, combining technical interest with a rich history and a wide range of camouflage schemes and combat deployments.

Tunisia 1942-1943 was one of the first battlefields where the Tiger I appeared in action. Heavy Tank Battalion 501 (schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501, abbreviated as s.Pz.Abt.501) was one of the first units equipped with Tigers, and its 1st Company was deployed as part of the Deutsches Afrikakorps in the final phase of the North African campaign. The Tigers arrived in Tunisia in late 1942, when the Axis situation in Africa was already deteriorating after the defeat at El-Alamein and the Allied landing as part of Operation Torch. Despite their technical superiority, the Tigers faced challenging conditions in Tunisia - limited supplies, a hot climate, a dusty environment and growing Allied superiority in the air and on the ground. The early production version of the Tiger I featured specific details such as smoke grenade launchers on the turret, a different type of optics, and other design features that differed from later variants.

The 1:35 scale Dragon kit focuses on this early version of the Tiger I in Tunisian design. Modelers can expect detailed work on the undercarriage, turret, armor and other characteristic elements of early production. Tunisia offers interesting options for weathering and painting - typically sand or ochre-brown tonestones of desert camouflage, dust, armor wear, and signs of heavy use in rough terrain. The combination of historical accuracy and the visual appeal of the North African environment makes this kit a suitable project for collectors focused on early Tiger deployments, as well as for those who want to build a model with an authentic desert look. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
