1/350 Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Yamato April 7 1945
IJN Battleship Yamato kit by Border Model in monumental 1:350 scale. This model depicts the largest and most powerful battleship ever built as she looked during her last mission in April 1945. The kit features an extremely high level of detail, includes photo-etched parts, 3D printed elements and offers the option of both full-hull and waterline builds. This is a model for true enthusiasts and modelers looking for a challenge.
The battleship Yamato was the flagship of the Japanese Imperial Navy and a symbol of its naval power. At the time of her launch in 1941, she was the largest and best armoured warship ever to sail the seas. She was originally developed with the idea that her immense firepower could outweigh any battleship in the US Navy. The main armament consisted of nine huge 460mm guns in three turrets, making her absolutely unique.
Despite her enormous potential, Yamato took part in only a limited number of operations during the war, largely due to Japanese strategy of saving a valuable ship for a decisive battle. In 1944, Yamato and her sister ship Musashi were significantly reinforced with anti-aircraft weaponry to defend against the growing threat of American air power. Her last and most famous action was Operation Ten-Go in April 1945, when she was ordered to carry out a suicide attack on the American invasion force off Okinawa. However, the ship was attacked by a vast superiority of American aircraft from aircraft carriers and after being hit by numerous bombs and torpedoes, she sank on 7 April 1945, ending the era of the giant battleships.
