The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a unique American fighter aircraft characterized by its twin-hull configuration and central pilot's nacelle. It served in many roles, from fighter escort to fighter-bomber to reconnaissance machine. The P-38J version, introduced in 1943, received a redesigned cooling system with redesigned air intakes on the Allison V-1710 engines, which improved reliability and performance at higher speeds.
In 1944, the P-38J operated with the U.S. 8th and 9th Air Arm on the European theater, where it was used primarily as an escort fighter for daylight bombing raids on Germany and occupied territories. With its long range, it was able to guide bombers deep over enemy territory and effectively counter Luftwaffe fighters.
The 1/48th scale Hobby 2000 kit features detailed plastic parts with fine engraving, authentic proportions and decals for the machines deployed in Europe in 1944. The kit allows you to build a realistic version of the P-38J Lightning with accurate markings and is suitable for modelers interested in Allied WWII fighters.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
