The Curtiss P-40E Warhawk was a single-engine, single-seat fighter aircraft that formed the backbone of American fighter aviation in the early years of World War II. Deployments of the P-40E ranged from the Pacific to North Africa to the China-Burma-India theater, where it became particularly famous in the colors of the American Volunteer Group - the "Flying Tigers" - with its distinctive shark's mouth on the nose.
