1/72 P-40M Warhawk
The Special Hobby 1/72 P-40M Warhawk is a plastic model kit of an American fighter aircraft from the Second World War, designed to be assembled. This is a very well-made kit, containing three plastic sprues and two sprues of clear parts. The pack includes decals for five aircraft: the ‘Wairarapa Wildcat’ of New Zealand’s most successful pilot flying a P-40, G. B. Fisken, two American aircraft, one Australian aircraft and one Brazilian aircraft (in two colour schemes), making for a varied and attractive selection. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was one of the most widely used American fighter aircraft at the start of and throughout the Second World War. Although it was not among the most powerful aircraft of its time, it stood out for its robust construction, reliability and versatility, thanks to which it proved its worth on numerous battlefields around the world. The P-40M variant was one of the later production models, powered by an Allison V-1710 engine, and was supplied not only to the US Air Force but also to Allied nations under the Lend-Lease programme. It was precisely thanks to its widespread export that the P-40 became an icon of the Allied air forces and was flown by pilots of many nationalities.
This Special Hobby 1:72 scale kit offers a very high-quality model designed for assembly. It contains three sprues of plastic parts and two sprues of clear parts, allowing for a detailed reproduction of the cockpit and glazing. The selection of decals is particularly extensive, covering no fewer than five different aircraft from various nations. Among these, the ‘Wairarapa Wildcat’ stands out – the aircraft of Geoffrey B. Fisken, the most successful New Zealand pilot to fly the P-40. These are complemented by two American aircraft, one Australian and one Brazilian, the latter of which is also available in two colour schemes. Modellers can therefore choose from a wide range of interesting camouflage patterns and aircraft from various Allied air forces.
The 1:72 scale is popular for its versatility and space-saving nature, making it easy to build even a large collection of fighter aircraft. With the P-40, it is common to highlight the panelling and depict operational wear and tear consistent with intensive use in field conditions. Furthermore, the wide range of colour schemes available allows you to build a model according to your own choice and the focus of your collection. The kit does not include the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
