The 1/72nd scale model of the Seafire F/FR Mk.46 by Special Hobby represents one of the last versions of the Spitfire-based fighter aircraft for the Royal Navy. The Supermarine Seafire F/FR Mk.46 was the penultimate production version of the naval mutation of the legendary Spitfire. The Mk.46 version was equipped with a powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon 87 engine with counter-rotating propellers and fixed SOP. This gave it significantly better handling and performance than its predecessors, making it one of the British Navy's most advanced propeller-driven fighters.
The aircraft was designed for both pure fighter (F - Fighter) and reconnaissance missions (FR - Fighter Reconnaissance). The Seafire Mk.46 was deployed on aircraft carriers in the late 1940s and served briefly during the transition to jet engines. It was distinguished by its sleek appearance and excellent performance, but still suffered from the rigours of shipboard operation.
